CALL TO WORSHIP
We gather to celebrate the boundless riches of Christ and to consider the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things.
With boldness and confidence let us worship the Lord.
With faith and hope let us receive the grace of God.
FOR THE RENEWAL OF OUR HEARTS
Instruct our mouths, O Lord, with a new song, that, our hearts being renewed, we may always rejoice in the praise and in the company of saints, O God our strength and our Redeemer. Amen. (Ancient Scottish Prayer)
HYMN: 99 “God We Praise You, God We Bless You”
RESPONSIVE READING Psalm 34 Pages 550-551
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gift-giving and loving God, we confess that we do not always know our own worth, that we can forget our capacity for greatness and waste opportunities for righteousness. You offer us gifts for service in Your world, and yet we can neglect Your gifts, store them away in the closet, shove them under the stairs, and give away to others the gifts You have chosen especially for us. May we have the wisdom to know our gifts, the courage to open them up, and the dedication to use them for Your glory. Amen.
Heavenly Father we ask for Your forgiveness for the sins and neglects of recent days. We have turned our back on You, said careless things and often done as we have pleased.
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
The good news in Christ is that when we face ourselves and God with the awareness of our need, we are given grace to grow, and courage to carry on the journey. Friends, believe the good news of the gospel.
HYMN: 455 “For All the Saints”
PRAYER – The Heavenly Food of God’s Word
Loving Father, who hast so made us that we live not by bread alone, but by every word of God; and who hast taught us not to spend our labour on that which cannot satisfy; cause us to hunger after the heavenly food of
thy Word, and to find in it our daily provision on the way to eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

COMMUNION
Thanks and praise, glory and honour are Yours, Eternal God, the Alpha and the Omega, our source and our destiny, our A and Z; for You who began a good work on the first day of Creation will surely bring it to completion on the Day of Jesus Christ.
We thank You that when the time was right, in the oracle of prophets, in the preaching of the Baptist and the annunciation of the angel, You prepared the way of the Lord Jesus Christ;
Incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, He came truly human and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.
At His birth the angel choirs glorified You in heaven and sang peace to all people on earth.
And so we join with them, and the sun, moon and stars, with the continents and oceans, and with everything that has breath to praise You in the eternal hymn:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the Highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Truly You are holy, Lord, and blessed is Your son, Jesus Christ.
As Mary and Joseph went from Galilee to Bethlehem and found no room,
so Jesus went from Galilee to Jerusalem and was despised and rejected.
As angels sang Hosanna! to welcome the new king’s birth,
so the crowds cried Hosanna! before they killed the King of the Jews.
As His first resting place was in the straw where cattle feed,
so Jesus’ last moment of peace was found at supper with His friends.
THE COMMUNION
Pour out Your Holy Spirit on us, that we who taste Your gifts may receive what we are, and become what we receive: The body of Christ.
O God of unchangeable power and eternal light, look favourably on Your whole church, that wonderful and sacred mystery; and the peaceful operation of Your providence, carry out the work of our salvation.
And let the whole world feel and see that things which were cast down are being raised up, and all things which had grown old are being made new, and all things are returning to perfection through Him from whom they took their origin.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
You have opened to us the Scriptures, O Christ, and You have made Yourself known in the breaking of the bread. Abide with us, we pray, that, blessed by Your royal presence, we may walk with You all the days of our life, and at its end behold You in glory of the eternal Trinity, one God for ever and ever. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN: 531 “Sent Forth by God’s Blessing”
BENEDICTION
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.
May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it. Amen.
