Order of Service – Sunday 12 December 2021 – ADVENT 3 – JOY

CALL TO WORSHIP                                                              from Isaiah 12

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid, for God is my strength and my might.

With joy we come to draw water from the wells of salvation.

Sing praise to God, who has done magnificent things; let this be known in all the earth.

We shout aloud and sing for joy, for great in our midst is the Holy One.

Let us worship God!

CAROL:                    “Hark the Herald Angels Sing

PRAYER

Thank You, God, for the joy You give us. We ask that as we wait for all your promises to come true, and for Christ to come true, and for Christ to come again, that You would remain present with us. Help us today, and every day to worship You, to hear Your word, and to do Your will by sharing Your joy with each other. We ask it in the name of the one who was born in Bethlehem. Amen!

CAROL:       316       “O Little Town of Bethlehem

LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLE – Joy               Jan Cartwright

“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord is my strength and my song; God had become my salvation”. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. (Isaiah 12)

We light the third candle of Advent, the candle of joy.

Jesus, light of our world, we hope for change in our lives and in Your world.

We watch and work and wait together for joy. Amen!

CAROL:              “Joy to the World! The Lord is Come

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION                                        Jan Cartwright

Paul wrote to the Philippians:

Rejoice in the Lord always, again I will say, Rejoice. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God’.

Jesus, joy of the world, we pray for all those whose courage forges new paths of hope, justice and peace.

We especially pray for refugees as they seek to find refuge or to return home, and for all others around the world who find themselves displaced.

Bless all those who work to support people who flee from conflict. May they hold unto the vision of reunited families and communities.
