CALL TO WORSHIP

Let us worship God.

The world belongs to God, the earth and all its people.

Love and peace come together, justice and peace join hands.

How good and how lovely it is to live together in unity.

If the Lord’s disciples keep silent these stones would shout aloud.

Lord, open our lips and our mouths shall proclaim Your praise.

Amen!

HYMN:       147       “To God be the Glory

PRAYER OF ADORATION

Ever-living God, You are infinite, yet compassionate; in You we live, and move, and have our being. One with us in Jesus Christ, You share our life and our death; flowing through us as living water, You quench our thirst. Holy One, we adore You; Holy Wisdom, we adore You; Holy Spirit, we adore You; accept the praise we bring today and for ever. Amen!

PRAYER (All Creation Praise God)

O transcendent, almighty God, how can words adequately praise You?

No speech can describe You. No mind can probe Your mystery.

Yet all speech springs from You, and all thought stems from You.

All creation proclaims You, all creatures revere You.

Every gust of wind breathes a prayer to You; every rustling tree sings a hymn to You. All things are sustained by You, and they move according to Your harmonious design.

The whole world longs for You, and all people desire You.

Yet You have set Yourself apart, You are far beyond our grasp. You are the purpose of all that exists, but You do not let us comprehend You.

Lord, I want to speak to You. But how shall I address You? Amen!

(Gregory of Nazianzus 329-389)

HYMN:       179       “Praise with Joy the World’s Creator” (Mel. 134)

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION                           Psalm 27 – Psalm of David

The Lord is my light and my salvation¾whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life¾of whom shall I be afraid?

When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh,

when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear;

though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.

One thing I ask from the Lord, this is what I seek:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,

to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.

For in the day of trouble He will keep me safe in His dwelling;

He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.

Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me;

at His tabernacle I will sacrifice with shouts of joy;

I will sing and make music to the Lord.

Hear my voice when I call Lord;

be merciful to me and answer me.

My heart says of You, “Seek His face!”

Your face, Lord, I will seek.

Do not hide Your face from me, do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my helper.

Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Saviour.

Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.

Teach me Your way, Lord’ lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.

Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,

for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence.

I am still confident of this: I will see goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

HYMN:       717       “Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart”

PRAYER BEFORE READING THE SCRIPTURES

O Lord, You have given Your Word for a light to shine upon our path; inspire us to meditate on that Word and to follow its teaching;

That we may find its light that shines more and more until the perfect day;

Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!

Holy One, open our hearts and minds by the power of Your Holy Spirit, that, as the Scriptures are read and proclaimed, we may hear Your word with joy. Amen!
