GATHERING IN GOD’S NAME

Come and seek the way of insight. Come and seek the Holy One.

Holy Wisdom calls to all who will listen: come to me, and live.

OPENING PRAYER – Seeking the Lord

O gracious and holy God, give us diligence to seek You, wisdom to perceive You, and patience to wait for You.

Grant us, O God, a mind to meditate on You; eyes to behold You; ears to listen for Your word; a heart to love You; and a life to proclaim You; through the power of the Spirit of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen! (St. Benedict 480-543)

INVOCATION

Come to us God of unity. Come with Your forgiveness and Your healing grace. Come, that we may witness to reconciliation in a divided world; that we may gather around Christ’s table as one people; that we may affirm one Church, one faith, one Lord.

Come to us, God of unity.

Come to us God of hope. Come to us with Your promises. Come in Your mysterious presence. Come, that we may marvel at Your faithfulness in past generations; that we may celebrate the new things You are doing among us today; that we may be Your pilgrim people on our journey to Your kingdom.

Come to us, God of hope. Amen!

HYMN:       443       “Come, Dearest Lord, Descend and Dwell

PRAYER OF ADORATION

O, God whose reason rules the world, who formed the starry heights above, timeless, time’s chain far forth You hurled, unmoved, gave all things power to move. Prevailed on by no outside cause to fashion all reality; ideas of love and mental laws moulded the noble world we see.

Your nature perfect beauty, thus You made the world in tenderness with sights and sounds to conjure us to love the source of loveliness.

You named the printed elements of earth and water, air and fire, and balanced out their influence that none might lower be or higher.

O Father, give me power to climb and wash in fountains filled with light, weighed down no more things of time, lit by Your shining in the night. The sight of You begins our day, with You its evening we shall spend; You carry us, and lead the way, the journey, and the journey’s end.    (Boethius c. 480 – c. 547)

PRAISING GOD

Gracious God, we humbly thank You for all Your gifts so freely given to us, for life and health and safety, for power to work, leisure to rest, and for all that is beautiful in creation and human life. But, above all, we praise You for our Saviour, Jesus Christ, for His death and resurrection, for the gift of Your Spirit, and for the hope of sharing in Your glory. Fill our hearts with joy and peace in believing; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!

PRAYING TO GOD

Although we are the people of God, Scripture reminds us that we still sin. We need to confess our failures, knowing that the Lord Jesus died for us and intercedes for us with the Father.

Let us draw near to the Father, who freely forgives through His infinite goodness and mercy, and pray to Him with sincerity and confidence.

Heavenly Father, we praise You for adopting us as Your children and making us heir of eternal life. In Your mercy You have washed us from our sins and made us clean in Your sight. Yet we still fail to love You and serve You as we should. Forgive us our sins and renew us by Your grace, that we may continue to grow as members of Christ, in whom alone is our salvation. Amen!

God is slow to anger and full of compassion. He forgives all who humbly repent and turn to His Son Jesus Christ, our Lord, in whom there is no condemnation. Amen!
