A Prayer
Faithful God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: You are always there in times of trial, times of uncertainty and anxiety, or times of accomplishment and celebration. You do not forsake us. You are our strong fortress. Therefore, we run to You when life overwhelms us, confuses us, terrifies us, stuns and staggers us.
If some people are in shock today–comfort and restore them.
If some people have come to the end of their resources, meet their needs.
If some people are struggling to know what the right thing is to do, guide them, and then give them the courage and strength to do what is right.
If some people are lonely, even in a crowd–encourage them with Your presence and lead them into a new friendship with one of Your people.
If some people are anxious about their employment or the lack of employment, give them meaningful work to do to Your glory that will meet their needs.
Faithfully see us through. This is our hope. This is our prayer, which we offer in the name of Jesus our Lord and Saviour. Amen! Richard Herman
CHURCH COUNCIL REPORT
Now that Covid is (almost) behind us we can again celebrate Market Morning. Huge thanks to Frank and Virginia for setting up the goods for sale. This year they have invited their family from the UK to help! This is our flagship event for raising funds (supporting Exodus) and providing a place for locals to gather and exchange news. Thank you to everyone who helps on the day – our small team works harder than ever to put this all together.
We are delighted that Krikor is taking some well-earned annual leave. He will be away 6-31 August to accompany his daughter, Lori, on a middle eastern trip to do research for her university course. We hope the trip is safe and enjoyable for them both. While Krikor is away we will have visiting preachers – James Knowles (13 August) and Liam McKenna (20 August). On 27 August we will join Crows Nest congregation.
28 July 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the turning of the first sod for the Sydney Harbour Bridge. On 10 September we will celebrate the laying of the foundation stone of our church. Krikor has organised special guests with messages and music so please mark this important date in your diary and invite friends who may have moved out of the area to come and celebrate with us. The service will be at 2:00 pm, followed by afternoon tea in the War Memorial Hall. We will be catering for this event ourselves so please consider baking something for everyone to share.
We have also booked the display window in Lane Cove Library for the month of September. Please look at home for any memorabilia suitable for display and include names on all photographs. We will need to hand our display items over to Naomi at the Library in mid-August. All items will be returned.
At our congregation meeting following the Sunday Service on 12 February it was a unanimous decision to again raise $3,000 to support the Artsakh appeal. (We had previously supported one family for two years). You can contribute with a direct deposit or cash in the offertory plate.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those undergoing, or recovering from, treatment and those feeling sadness at the loss of a loved one. We also remember those affected by the trauma of war in Ukraine and Artsakh.
