CALL TO WORSHIP

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care. (Psalm 95:6-7)

HYMN:       216       “Rejoice, the Lord is King”  (Tune 371)

MORNING PRAYER

O Lord, Yours is the day and Yours is the night; You have perfected the light and the sun; You have made all good things of the earth, and we ask You: cause Your rich mercies to rise on our lowliness, together with the daylight. Free us from the darkness and the shadow of death and from every evil thought and device of the devil. For Yours it is to have mercy and to save us, O God, and to You we send up glory, to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen!                                                                                (Basil of Caesarea c. 330-379)

A LITANY OF THANKSGIVING

All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above,

so, we lift our hearts up to You, God, in praise and thanksgiving.

As we count our blessings, and acknowledge Your goodness,

our hearts go out to those who do not have, and who are in need.

We thank You for plentiful harvest and full refrigerators

and we ask that You supply the needs of those who are hungry.

We thank You for jobs that provide for our families and supply the needs of our society,

and pray that You would care for those who have no work, or the dignity and purpose it brings.

We thank You for opportunities and choices, for meaning and challenges,

and pray that You would give a sense of purpose to those who feel trapped.

We thank You for family and friends who love us and care for us,

and pray that You would befriend those who are alone.

The abundance of harvest is a symbol of the abundance of Your love in our lives.

May we live in a spirit of gratitude to You and generosity to our neighbour.

Loving God, in this season and all year long, give to us a gift of a thankful heart,

so that we may acknowledge You as the giver of all that is good in our lives.

In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen!

THANKSGIVING

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we Your unworthy servants give You humble thanks for all Your goodness and loving-kindness to us and all whom You have made. We bless You for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all Your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of Your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth Your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to Your service, and by walking before You in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with You and the Holy Spirit be honour and glory throughout all ages. Amen! (Book of Common Prayer, 1979 Episcopal Church, U.S.A.)

HYMN:       717       “Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart

A PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O Lord, You have measured the heights and the earth in the hollow of Your hand, and created the six-winged seraphim to cry out to You with an unceasing voice Holy, Holy, Holy, glory to Your name. Deliver me, from the mouth of the evil one, O Master. Forget my many evil deeds and through the multitude of Your compassions grant me daily forgiveness, for You are blessed unto ages. Amen!        (Sarrah Late 4th Century)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

“If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the perfect offering for our sins, and not for ours only, but also the sins of the whole world.”

SONG  –   He Is Lord

He is Lord, He is Lord! He is risen from the dead and He is Lord!

Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

TIME TO PRAY

A PRAYER BEFORE READING THE SCRIPTURES

May we be struck by the wisdom in these words and marked by hearing them, for within story lies meaning and within meaning, the wisdom of which we seek. Amen!                                                                                   (Gretta Vosper Another Breath)
