CALL TO WORSHIP

We gather to celebrate the boundless riches of Christ and to consider the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things.

With boldness and confidence let us worship the Lord.

With faith and hope let us receive the grace of God.

O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You and praise Your name, for in perfect faithfulness You have done marvellous things, things planned long ago. Surely this is our God; we trusted in Him, and He saved us. This is the Lord; we trusted in Him; let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.                                             Is. 25:1, 9

HYMN:       204       “Come Let Us Join Our Cheerful Songs

RESPONSIVE READING           Psalm 24                               Pages 544

FOR THE RENEWAL OF OUR HEARTS

Instruct our mouths, O Lord, with a new song, that, our hearts being renewed, we may always rejoice in the praise and in the company of saints, O God our strength and our Redeemer. Amen!                                                                                                      (Ancient Scottish Prayer)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

We confess, O God, that we have not always been open to Your gifts. In our common life, we have not always spoken the truth in love. We have not always been generous with our possessions. We have not always been kind and forgiving to one another. Forgive us and walk with us into the new life that is our destiny as Your children, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Remember that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.                                               (Eph 2:12-13)

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Amen!

PRAYER – The Heavenly Food of God’s Word

O God, who hast so made us that we live not by bread alone, but by every word of God; and who hast taught us not to spend our labour on that which cannot satisfy; cause us to hunger after the heavenly food of Thy Word, and to find in it our daily provision on the way to eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen! Prayers for Divine Service, 1923, Church of Scotland

HYMN:       510       “My God, Your Table Now is Spread

THE INVITATION

Dear friends, the Lord has prepared His table for all who love Him and trust Him alone for their salvation. All who are truly sorry for their sins, who sincerely believe in the Lord Jesus as their Saviour, and who desire to live in obedience to Him, are now invited to take with gladness from the table of the Lord.

WORDS OF CONSECRATION

On the night of His betrayal, Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me”. In like manner, after supper He took the cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink of this, for this is My blood of the New Covenant which is shed for you and for many, for remission of sins; do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me”.

MEMORIAL PRAYER

Holy God, with this bread and with this cup, we do as our Saviour has commanded; we celebrate the redemption He has won for us.

For as often as we eat this bread and drink from this cup we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

Receive our praise, God almighty, through Jesus Christ our Lord, with whom and in whom by the power of the Holy Spirit, we worship You in songs of never-ending praise:

Blessing, honour, glory and power are Yours forever and ever. Amen!

BREAKING THE BREAD & SERVING THE BREAD & THE CUP

We break this bread and take this cup so that we can share in the life of Christ. God’s gifts for God’s people.

Take in faith this Holy Sacrament of the body and the blood of Christ in remembrance that He died for you, and feed on Him in your hearts with thanksgiving.

DISMISSAL

We thank You our God that You have fed us with this sacrament, united us with Christ, and given us a foretaste of the heavenly banquet prepared for all humanity.

Loving God, we offer ourselves to You as a living sacrifice through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Send us out in the power of the Holy Spirit to live and work to Your praise and glory. Amen!

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Lord God, we thank You for this meal, and for welcoming us to Your table. We remember that we are Your children, and that You have called us to share Your love with everyone we meet.

Help us to receive Your life, walk in Your strength, and follow Your ways every moment of our lives. Amen!
