THE YEAR AHEAD!
By God’s grace we commenced the New Year and committed to do our utmost for the glory of God, regardless of the many challenges that we face. Though we are not sure what will be the result of conversation with our neighbouring Lane Cove Uniting Church under the guidance of the Presbytery, we will go forward, business as usual. We are looking ahead for a great year and many blessings of God, who loves us and is always with us on the way forward.
In September 2023 we celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the laying of the Foundation Stone of the church building as well as the 121st Anniversary of commencing services on these premises. On Sunday 4 February we will once again praise God with the Centenary Worship Service celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the opening and the dedication of the church building.
Though our numbers are declining, we feel that we still have the energy to continue rendering our service, as long as we can and as long as God uses us and our talents, leading us on the way ahead.
Emmanuel! God is with us and He will be with us as long as we keep the faith.
Rev. Dr. Krikor Youmshajekian
CHURCH COUNCIL REPORT
Happy New Year! We are looking forward to our traditional annual activities – Market Morning, Fashion Parade, Movie and Pizza Nights, Time4U and St. Andrew’s Day.
Last year a group of us travelled to Narrabri for a week of exploring and fellowship. This year we plan a trip to the south coast of NSW, somewhere near Nowra in the last week of May, so please reserve the week in your calendars. Details are not yet available but we plan to hire a minibus so we can travel together as a group and book a number of cabins in a suitable caravan park.
We are pleased that new tenants have taken a one-year lease on the Manse from 1 February. Thanks to Krikor’s connections and Wendy’s bookkeeping the renovation was completed in record time. Since some of the congregation had a visit to the house at the end of last year, a second air conditioning unit has been installed, new back gate and garage side doors have been installed, some areas around the garage have been painted and the electric switchboard upgraded as required.
After some weeks in Royal North Shore Hospital arrangements were made for Juliana’s future. She is now living at St. Peter’s Green on Mowbray Road, Lane Cove North, as she would not have been safe at home on her own. She seems to have settled in there and would welcome a visit.
Please pray for all refugees. Many countries are supporting those who have been forced to leave their homes and families. Pray for peace in this divided world.
The Artsakh families found refuge in Armenia. Please support them if you can by a donation in the offertory plate on any Sunday or by direct deposit to our bank account.
As Krikor’s ministry comes closer to its end date of May 2025, our thoughts turn to the future and what lies ahead. At our congregation meeting on Sunday 10 December, we advised that Presbytery has instructed us to liaise with Lane Cove Uniting and come up with a plan for our future, post May 2025. Let’s start with a five-year plan. Please think carefully about what you would like our church to look like in May 2030. There is a suggestion box at the entry to the church so please don’t be shy about putting your thoughts on paper, you can be anonymous of course.
On 10 September 2023 we celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of St. Andrew’s. On 4 February 2024 we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the opening and dedication of this church, where we worship today.
Let us continue the message of the Christmas season and our century old tradition of love, peace, joy and hope in our hearts.
Penny Goodley
CONGRATULATIONS CHRIS BUTTERS!

On Australia Day 2024 Chris was awarded an OAM for services to music and sport. No official mention was made in the newspaper of all that she does for St. Andrew’s but WE know the important part she plays in the life of this church. Thank you so much.
We look forward to reading the citation in full and seeing the honour around her neck.
In 2016 Chris was made Lane Cove Citizen of the Year but this OAM is a national award so is of far greater significance.
CONGRATULATIONS LORI!
After 18 months attending New York University (NYU) Lori has been awarded her Masters Degree in Journalism (Environment and Health Journalism). We were pleased to personally congratulate her on Sunday 28 January. Krikor and Dee will be travelling to New York in May for the graduation celebrations.
