CALL TO WORSHIP

Give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name.

Sing praise to the Lord, whose love endures for ever.

God our joy and strength, we will sing of Your glory.

HYMN:        143         “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”

RESPONSIVE READING

Heavenly Father, in Your love draw us deeper into Your presence. Give to Your Church grace to imitate Your Son ….

Nourish us with the food that leads to eternal life.

Heavenly Father, calm our words that we may use them to build up and nurture in Your way. Put away from us the ways of malice and evil ….

Sustain those who lead in pursuing justice and peace.

Heavenly Father, when the going is hard save us from despair and faltering. Put behind Your people the complaining that saps strength and joy ….

Renew within us a song of thanksgiving and praise.

Heavenly Father, prevent the angry being consumed by hatred and bitterness. Strengthen the weak and weary ….

In Your tender love, restore Your people.

Lord, it is You who comes when we cry in storm-tossed moments. Reach out to Your Church when sight of the strong wind brings fear ….

Open our ears to hear You say ‘take heart’.

Lord, it is You who sends Your disciples to cross the lake. Be with all who travel by land, sea and air for missions of mercy ….

Direct those who guard our safety.

Lord, it is You who went up the mountain to pray alone. Come to us in the still moments to refresh, revive and reignite the fire of living ….

Increase in us thanksgiving for Your saving mercy.

Lord, it is You who reaches out to us when we cry ‘Lord save us’. Catch all who are failing in their frailty ….

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Lord, it is You who appears in the early morning on the water and later in the garden. Bring all who have died in faith to delight in the sound of Your voice ….

With the whole host of heaven we worship Your holy name.

HYMN:       526       “Lord Jesus Christ, You Have Come to Us”

PRAYER

Gentle…yet powerful.
Lowly…yet almighty.
Shepherd…yet King.

In Your gentleness, guide us.
In Your power, strengthen us.
In Your lowliness, strip from us our selfish pride which only destroys us.
In Your greatness, lift us up that we might aspire to greater things.
As a shepherd, call us to be Your servants.
As a King, call us to be Your royal priesthood.

O God, who is our shepherd and our King;
O Christ, who was crucified and is now risen from the dead;
O Spirit, who comforts and empowers;
O great One in Three, Holy Trinity, this hour, set us free to worship. Amen.

HYMN:       598       “Dear Father, Lord of Humankind”

CONFESSION – PRAYING TO GOD

Although we are the people of God, Scripture reminds us that we still sin. We need to confess our failures, knowing that the Lord Jesus died for us and intercedes for us with the Father.

Let us draw near to God, who freely forgives though His infinite goodness and mercy, and pray to Him with sincerity and confidence.

Heavenly Father, we praise You for adopting us as Your children and making us heir of eternal life. In Your mercy You have washed us from our sins and made us clean in Your sight. Yet we still fail to love You and serve You as we should. Forgive us our sins and renew us by Your grace, that we may continue to grow as members of Christ, in whom alone is our salvation. Amen.

God is slow to anger and full of compassion. He forgives all who humbly repent and turn to His Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, in whom there is no condemnation. Amen.

PSALTER –  Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—He who watches over you will not slumber;

indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life;

The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forever.

TIME TO PRAY

In silence please offer your prayers to the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus.
