CALL TO WORSHIP
Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done.
Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell of all His wonderful acts.
Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always. Psalm 105:1-4
Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Sing to the Lord, bless His name; tell of His salvation from day to day.
I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.
My soul will boast in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the Lord with me and let us exalt His name together.
Psalm 34:1-3
INVOCATION
Spread the banquet of Your love for us, O Lord. We are hungry. We have tried many foods, and now come to Your house and feed at Your table that we might be nourished by the bread of life. In our worship this day may we find that which truly satisfies the hungry heart in each of us.
Amen!
HYMN: 221 “Glory to God on High” (Tune 447)
HYMN TO GOD
How can words sing Your praise when no word can speak of You?
How can mind consider You when no mind can ever grasp You?
You alone are unutterable from the time You created all things that can be spoken of.
You alone are unknowable; from the time You created all things that can be known.
All things cry out about You; those which speak, and those which cannot speak.
All things honour You; those which think, and those which cannot think.
For there is one longing, one groaning, that all things have for You.
All things pray to You that comprehend Your plan and offer You a silent hymn.
In You, the One, all things abide, and all things endlessly run to You who are the end of all. Amen! (Gregory of Nazianzus 329-389)
HYMN: 738 “My Jesus, My Saviour”
FOR THE RENEWAL OF OUR HEARTS
Instruct our mouths, O Lord, with a new song; that, our hearts being renewed, we may always rejoice in Your praise and in the company of Your saints, O God, our Strength and our Redeemer. Amen!
CONFESSION
Out of the depth I cry to You, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice.
Let Your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.
If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?
But with You there is forgiveness; therefore, You are feared.
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope.
My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.
O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.
He Himself will redeem Israel from all their sins. Amen! Psalm 130
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! …. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be, has not yet been made known. But know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies Himself, just as He is pure. 1 John 3:1-3
HYMN: 485 “My God, Accept My Heart This Day”
A PASTOR’S PRAYER
Eternal God, to whom that which is invisible is as clear as that which is visible: before You Your people bow their heads, submitting to You their hard hearts and unruly bodies.
Send down blessings from Your glorious dwelling on these men and women, lending to their prayers a ready ear.
Hold them upright with Your strong hand, controlling all their evil passions.
Preserve their bodies and soul, filling them with faith in Your gospel and awe at Your majesty. Amen! (Hippolytus of Rome c.190-c.263)
