CALL TO WORSHIP

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.

In His hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to Him. The sea is His, for he made it, and His hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.                         (Psalm 95:1-7)

Let us praise God who meets our needs and leads us to places of tranquillity and rest.

Let us praise God who comforts us and replaces our fears with overflowing love.

PRAYER –  For the Renewal of Our Hearts

Instruct our mouths, O Lord, with a new song, that, our hearts being renewed, we may always rejoice in the praise and in the company of saints, O God our strength and our Redeemer. Amen. (Ancient Scottish Prayer)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord, we thank You for the love, power and mercy that have brought us to this moment in our lives and our life together.

We confess that we have not always wanted the best for each other or for those around us.

Jesus, Lord of the world, forgive us.

We confess that we have too often and too easily pleased ourselves and put our own wants and needs before those of others.

Jesus, Lord of the world, forgive us.

We confess that we have memories of the past that still hurt us, that

we do not always find it easy to cope with what is happening today,

and that tomorrow’s uncertainty sometimes makes us afraid.

Jesus, Lord of the world, forgive us.

Lord we ask not only for forgiveness, but for the desire and strength to begin again.

Jesus, Lord of the world, forgive us. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Thanks be to God!

PRAYER  –  On Divine Provision

Eternal God, Our Father, we come to You as we are. In our minds are thoughts – some worthy and some unworthy. In our hearts are motives – some are Christlike and some are not. We come knowing that nothing is within us hidden from You. We ask You to search our hearts, remove from them that which cannot have Your approval, cleanse us in our inner parts, and give us the clarity of insight to see and accept the opportunities to serve our fellowmen in Your name. We come as we are, that we may be made into what we can become as Your children.

We thank You, our Father, for the mercy that is in Your hand and which is showered upon us in ways beyond our counting. We thank You for the provisions which sustain our bodies, for work to be done in Your name which makes us stand on tiptoe. We thank You for fellow seekers, in whose companionship and by the stimulation of whose goodwill we are caused to grow.

We hold within the compass of our thoughts and the compassion of our prayers, those who are ill in body, or distressed in mind, or disturbed in spirit. Help us to know within our own experience the healing which is in Your love; the peace of mind, which is in Your faithful care; and the challenge to serve and to establish justice, which You require from us.

We ask these things in the spirit of Him Whom we would learn to exemplify in all our words and thoughts and deeds. Amen.                                                                            (Rev. V. Tootikian)

A PRAYER BEFORE READING THE SCRIPTURES

Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them, that by practice, and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
