CALL TO WORSHIP

Come near to God, and He will come near to you”. (James 4:8)

May all the barriers between God and ourselves be removed. Let us open our spirits to the Spirit of God and discover the power and peace of God surging within us.

“Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise”. (Psalm 48:1a)

Therefore, let us joyously unite together as we sing, pray, listen to God’s word and share with God and one another.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

O Spirit of God, descend upon us now. Guide our worship; fill our mouths with praise and our hearts with love and gratitude.

Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days –

keep your tongues from evil and your lips from speaking lies.

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their cry.

The righteous may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers them.

The Lord redeems His servants; no-one will be condemned who takes refuge in Him.      (Adapted from Psalm 34: 12-22)

MORNING PRAYER

Almighty and most merciful Father; we have erred and strayed from Your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against Your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and there is no health in us. But You, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare, O God, those who confess their faults. Restore, O God, those who are penitent; according to Your promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for His sake; that we may hereafter live godly, righteous, and sober lives, to the glory of Your Holy Name. Amen!

HYMN:       156       “Morning Has Broken

PSALTER

Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord, no deeds can compare with Yours.

All the nations You have made will come and worship before You, O Lord; they will bring glory to Your name.

For You are great and do marvellous deeds, You alone are God.

Teach me Your way, O Lord, that I will walk in Your truth; give me an undivided heart that I may fear Your name.

I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forever.

For great is Your love toward me; You have delivered me from the depths of the grave.     (Psalm 86:8-13)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Father, we confess that we have often felt as Moses must have felt when he experienced Your holy presence.

We confess that we are aware of moments of feeling utterly unworthy of You and Your grace.

We confess that we have often known times when we have been ashamed and afraid of Your coming too close to us.

We confess that we feel unclean whenever You are near and that we feel utterly inadequate to do justice to Your glory.

We confess the mess we have made and still continue to make of our lives.

We confess that though we call ourselves Christians and have opened our lives to Christ and have been filled with the Holy Spirit, we often feel that we are not greatly different from those who do not know You.

Lord, touch us, hold us, cleanse us, forgive us, and renew us.

And do it for Your glory. Amen!                                                 (David Clowes)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

“If anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defence – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world”.      (1 John 2:1b-2)

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Amen!

PRAYERS

O God, creator and preserver of all mankind: we humbly pray for all sorts and condition of men, that You would be pleased to make Your way

known to them, Your saving power among all nations.

We pray for the welfare of Your global church, that it may be guided and governed by Your good Spirit, so that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life.

We commend to Your fatherly goodness all who are in way afflicted or distressed, to comfort and relieve them according to their needs, giving them patience in their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. All this we ask for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!

Almighty God, You have promised to hear the petitions of those who ask in Your Son’s name: mercifully accept us who have made our prayers to You; and grant us those things which we have asked in faith according to Your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!
