CALL TO WORSHIP
God is faithful and compassionate. God provides peace in the midst of life’s storms. It is God who guides us and creates new paths.
Thanks be to God!
HYMN: 59 “All People That on Earth Do Dwell”
INVITATION TO REPENTANCE
Lord Jesus Christ, when our words and actions reflect a reluctance to confess You publicly as Lord of our lives: Forgive us.
When we fear that humbling ourselves would be seen by others as weakness, or some kind of defect in our character: Forgive us.
When we have betrayed Your love for us through our lack of love to You, for others, and for ourselves: Forgive us.
When we find ourselves glossing over the events of Your passion and death because we look forward to Easter as a time to enjoy holidays and have fun. Forgive us.
Silence
Lord Jesus Christ, fix your mind in us:
remake us in Your likeness;
empty us of all that hinders us from following You
to where pain and suffering, exploitation and injustice exist.
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Who, being in the very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Through His obedience we are freed from whatever sin enslaves us.
Thanks be to God.
TIME TO PRAY
In silence please offer your prayers to the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
HYMN: 148 “All Things Praise You, Lord Most High”
BIBLE READINGS
Genesis 32:22-32 (Page 33) Matthew 14:13-21 (Page 970)
SERMON: “Bless Me Lord!”
THE LORD’S SUPPER
Blessed are You, Lord, God of all creation. Through Your goodness we have this bread to offer which earth has given and human hands have made. It will become for us the bread of life. Blessed be God forever.
Blessed are You. Lord, God of all creation. Through Your goodness we have this cup to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become for us our spiritual drink. Blessed be God forever.
HYMN: 429 “Break Now the Bread of Life”
INVOCATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Eternal God, let Your Spirit come upon Your holy people, and may He sanctify these gifts of bread and wine.
As we share these holy things, may we be nourished and grow in grace to Your honour and glory, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
THE INSTITUTION OF THE LORD’S SUPPER
Merciful God, we thank You for these gifts of Your creation and we pray that we, who eat and drink them in remembrance of Christ’s passion and death, may be partakers of His body and His blood.
On the night of His betrayal, He took bread and when He had given thanks He gave it to His disciples, saying: “Take, eat. This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me”.
After supper He took the cup and again giving thanks He gave it to His disciples, saying: “Drink from this all of you. This is blood of the new covenant which is shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me”.
MEMORIAL PRAYER
Holy God, with this bread and with this cup, we do as our Saviour has commanded; we celebrate the redemption he has won for us.
For as often as we eat this bread and drink from this cup we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
Receive our praise, God almighty, through Jesus Christ our Lord, with whom and in whom by the power of the Holy Spirit, we worship you in songs of never ending praise:
Blessing, honour, glory and power are yours forever and ever. Amen.
BREAKING THE BREAD
The bread we break is a sharing of the body of Christ.
The cup we take is sharing in the blood of Christ.
INVITATION
Take in faith this Holy Sacrament of the body and the blood of Christ in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on Him in your hearts with thanksgiving.
DISMISSAL
We thank You our God that You have fed us with this sacrament, united us with Christ, and given us a foretaste of the heavenly banquet prepared for all humanity.
Loving God, we offer ourselves to You as a living sacrifice through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Send us out in the power of the Holy Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen.
HYMN: 228 “Crown Him with Many Crowns”
THE PEACE AND THE BLESSING
We do this to remind ourselves that God loves all of us collectively and each of us individually no matter who we are and what we’ve done, we are all loved by God and acceptable to God. And until we meet again, may God hold us in His wonderful care. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen.
