CALL TO WORSHIP

Praise the Lord!

How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise Him!

The Lord builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the exiles of Israel.
He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.
The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.

Sing to the Lord with grateful praise; make music to our God on the harp.

Praise the Lord!                                                                     (Psalm 147: 1-7, 20b)

Let us worship God!

HYMN:       47       “Our God, Our Help in Ages Past

RESPONSIVE READING

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. (Peter 1:3)

Merciful God of might, thank You for a new birth.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Merciful Jesus, thank You for a new creation.

I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 11:19)

Merciful God of might, thank You for a new spirit.

But in keeping with His promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. (2 Peter 3:13)

Merciful Jesus, come and renew this weary world.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Merciful God, our maker and our judge,

we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed:

we have not loved You with our whole heart,

we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves;

we repent, and are sorry for all our sins.

Father forgive us, strengthen us to love and obey You in newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O thou that beholds all things, we have sinned in thought, word, and deed; blot out our transgressions, be merciful to us sinners, and grant that our names may be found written in the Book of Life, for the sake of Christ our Saviour. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Hear then Christ’s word of grace to us: “Your sins are forgiven.”

Thanks be to God.

A PRAYER BEFORE READING THE SCRIPTURES

Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them, that by practice, and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
