GREETINGS

Blessed is the Holy Trinity of love, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God, fathering all creation, and blessed is the reign of God, now and forever to the ages of ages. God be with you. And also with you!

CALL TO WORSHIP

Sing to God, all people of the earth, sing praises to the Lord! Proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over all the land and whose power reigns above the skies. Praise be to God!

HYMN:       142       “Glory Be to God the Father

RESPONSIVE READING

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion, behold your king is coming to you.

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!

Blessed be the kingdom of our father David that is coming!

Hosanna in the highest!

Father, on this day, as we recall the entrance of our Lord and Saviour into Jerusalem, grant that we may open our hearts and let Him enter in and triumph within us anew.

Grant us depth of faith, honesty of purpose and divine wisdom to receive Him as our only hope for salvation.

Give us grace to cut from life the vital branches of sacrifice; and may our garments of righteousness be cast upon the highway of His coming.

Grant us, O Lord, responsive spirits that we receive Jesus as our Lord and King.

Help us to break down every barrier which we have built against His entrance in our lives.

May the doors of our hearts be lifted up that the King of Glory may come in.

Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest! Amen!

PRAYER

God Most High, gracious and glorious, blessed is the one who comes in your name. Lead us now on the road to the cross. May we follow with faithfulness and joy, shouting hosanna in the highest heaven; through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Amen!

HYMN:       724       “Hosanna

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Gracious God, doubt can be so troubling to us. Forgive us when we have failed to understand another’s doubt and given them a safe place to share it. Forgive us when we have failed to allow another person to work through their doubt and grow stronger. Forgive us, God, when we have made doubt a destination and have become complacent in seeking Your presence, Your will, and Your way for our lives. Lord, we believe. Help our unbelief. In the name of Jesus we ask this. Amen!

WORDS OF ASSURANCE

Hear the good news: Our gracious God forgives all your iniquity and crowns you with steadfast love and mercy; God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love; God does not deal with us according to our sins or repay us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is the steadfast love of God; as far as the east is from the west, so far God removes our transgressions from us. Thanks be to God. Amen!

PSALTER

O God, You are my God, I seek You, my soul thirsts for You; my flesh faints for You, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

So, I have looked upon You in the sanctuary, beholding Your power and glory.

Because Your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise You.

So, I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on Your name.

My soul is satisfied as with a rich feast, and my mouth praises You with joyful lips when I think of You on my bed, and meditate on You in the watches of the night.

For You have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.

TIME TO PRAY

In silence please offer your prayers to the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus.

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION

Holy One, speak to us again as we read of the suffering and death of Jesus. May we hear Your word above the shouts of the crowd, and hearing, may we follow faithfully, even to the cross. We pray in the name of Jesus, who died for us. Amen!
