RESPONSIVE READING

Risen Lord

Fill our hearts with Easter joy.

Risen Lord, You set ablaze the hearts of Your disciples with awe and wonder at Your resurrection. Open the eyes of Your Church to this astounding news ….

Fill our voices with joy that You are risen indeed.

Risen Lord, You see and judge the motives of rulers and leaders. Raise up and sustain with Your Holy Spirit people of integrity for the responsibilities of government . . .

Bring peace and justice to flourish.

Risen Lord, You drew alongside confused disciples as they journeyed to Emmaus. Give grace to all who accompany others in their searching . . .

For all who share their table and offer hospitality, we give You thanks.

Risen Lord, You incline Your ear to all who call upon You. Free us from the bonds that restrict our movement and dampen our praises . . .

Bless all who set their hope and trust on You.

Risen Lord, You came to Your disciples in the darkness and impaired vision of grief. Come close to all whose hearts are anguished by loss . . .

Bring us to rejoice in Your eternal Kingdom.

HYMN:     613     “Lord of All Hopefulness, Lord of All Joy

CONFESSION (from Psalm 103)

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your steadfast love; according to Your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.

Against You, You alone, have I sinned, and done what is evil in Your sight

You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.

Wash me, O Lord, and make me clean.

Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE (from Psalm 103)

Hear the good news: Our gracious God forgives all your iniquity and crowns you with steadfast love and mercy; God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love; God does not deal with us according to our sins, or repay us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is the steadfast love of God; as far as the east is from the west, so far God removes our transgressions from us.

Thanks be to God! Amen.

HYMN:       741       “O Lord, Hear My Prayer”  (Taizé)
