CALL TO WORSHIP
Let us sing of the beauty around us! Let us sing of the beauty within!
O hear the earth tell that all shall be well!
All shall be well. In our bliss, in our sorrow, in the sun and in the rain, all shall be well.
INVOCATION
Put Your music in our soul, O Lord. If we have lost our song, help us find it. If our joy has dried up, water us with the lyrics of Your love. If our voices are flat, enliven us with the energy of life. O Lord, receive this act of worship and praise, to the glory and honour of Your name.
HYMN: 445 “Jesus, Where’er Your People Meet”
RESPONSIVE READING
Lord of faith and truth, we bless Your holy name.
We call upon Your name, O Lord. Incline Your ear to our prayer.
God of purity, You see into the depths of our hearts. Keep Your Church from the corruption of evil ….
As we honour Your name so may we live to Your praise.
God of purity, You see our scheming and political intrigue. Keep the nations from oppression and violence ….
May nothing take precedence over respect for life.
God of purity, You see our desire and emotional blindness. Keep us from covetousness and deception ….
May fidelity and self-restraint be treasured and prevail.
God of purity, You see the pains of the world whether public or secret. Keep Your people from despair and despondency ….
May all who call on You know the consolation of Your love.
God of purity, You see the sorrow and distress of all who grieve. Keep hold of Your beloved at the hour of our death ….
May we rise with You in glory.
God of abiding mercy, we will rejoice in You.
We call upon Your name, O Lord. Incline Your ear to our prayer.
Generous God, You draw us deeper into Your love and our hearts respond in Your praise. Fill Your Church with Your bountiful goodness, that we may reach out to touch those beyond our usual gaze.
Make us hospitable, welcoming all as if Your Son.
Generous God, You exalt those regarded as lowly, and humble those used to worldly honour. Save all in high office from becoming contemptuous of the people they serve ….
Train us in the humility that respects and furthers the common good.
Generous God, You share Your bread with sinners and pilgrims equally, that all may grow in the likeness of Your Son. We pray for all with whom we share in this banquet of Your grace ….
Increase the bonds that unite us in Your fellowship.
Generous God, You promise that You will never forsake Your people. Be with all who feel shrouded in darkness or fear: all anxious about what the future holds, whose illness brings them close to despair ….
May Your light shine in the dark places.
Generous God, You bring to birth hope and new life. Be with all who work in social and medical services, caring for the sick, the elderly & the needy…
May Your hope fill our hearts and give us rest.
HYMN: 631 “Father, Lord of All Creation”
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of mercy and grace, we confess that when temptation has come our way we have often failed to meet its challenge. We have strayed from what we know to be right. We have taken the easy way instead of the way that leads to life. We have sought our security in mere possessions, status, and wealth instead of placing our trust in you. Forgive us, we pray, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE
God “does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us”. (Psalm 103:10-12)
A PRAYER OF INTERCESSION
In Your loving-kindness, O God . . . have mercy and hear our prayer.
Lord, You draw near and meet us when we are thirsty and weary.
You give to Your people living water gushing up eternal life . . .
Revive and refresh Your Church to tell of Your wonders.
Lord, in communities around the world, some turn taps but for many gathering water is a daily chore.
Bless the work of development agencies in improving access to clean water and sanitation . . .
With You, O Lord, is the well of life.
Lord, in adversity and under pressure we become quarrelsome and turn on You.
Teach us to sing praises when things go well and when times are difficult …
In Your mercy You turn sorrow into dancing.
Lord, You strengthen the weak and give courage to the faint of heart.
Be with all whose endurance is being tested to its limits . . .
Restore our hope in Your loving presence.
Lord, You prove Your Love for us in the death and resurrection of Your Son.
Gather for eternal life all who have died hoping in You . . .
Jesus, Saviour of the world, we trust in Your eternal salvation.
