CALL TO WORSHIP

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing. God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before Him in love.

O Spirit of God, descend upon us now. Guide our worship; fill our mouths with praise and our hearts with love and gratitude.

Let us worship God.

MORNING PRAYER

Almighty and most merciful Father; we have erred and strayed from Your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against Your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and there is no health in us. But You, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare, O God, those who confess their faults. Restore those who are penitent; according to Your promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for His sake; that we may hereafter live godly, righteous, and sober lives, to the glory of thy Holy Name. Amen!

HYMN:       216       “Rejoice the Lord is King(Tune 371)

RESPONSIVE READING                       Psalm 105:1-11, 42-45, Psalm 128:1

Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done.

Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell of all His wonderful acts.

Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.

Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.

Remember the wonders He has done, His miracles, and the judgments He pronounced,

O descendants of Abraham His servant, O sons of Jacob His chosen ones.

He is the Lord our God; His judgments are in all the earth.

He remembers His covenant forever,  the word He commanded,  for a

thousand generations,

the covenant He made with Abraham, the oath He swore to Isaac.

He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant:
“To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.”

For He remembered His holy promise given to His servant Abraham.

He brought out His people with rejoicing, His chosen ones with shouts of joy;

He gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for—

that they might keep His precepts and observe His laws.

Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in His way. Praise the Lord!

HYMN:       111       “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

PRAYER OF SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

Where there is sadness; joy.

Divine Master,

grant that I may not so much seek

To be consoled as to console;

To be understood as to understand;

To be loved as to love;

For it is in giving that we are pardoned;

It is dying that we are born eternal life.

HYMN:      693       “Come as You Are

PRAYER FOR FORGIVENESS

O Lord, who has mercy upon all, take away from me my sins, and mercifully kindle in me the fire of Your Holy Spirit.

Take away from me the heart of stone, and give me a heart of flesh, a heart to love and adore You, a heart to delight in You, to follow and to enjoy You, for Christ’s sake. Amen!

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Father, we thank You for being ready to forgive us whenever we turn to You and honestly acknowledge Your power and our own need.

We praise You for the joy of knowing that no matter who we are or what we have done or failed to do, we can experience the joy of forgiveness and beginning again.

HYMN:       437       “Blessed Jesus at Your Word

A PRAYER BEFORE READING THE SCRIPTURES

Even as we seek understanding, our minds, too often, shelter us from the realities we might uncover. May we have the courage to hear and hold truths found within these words. Amen! (Gretta Vosper Another Breath)
